I know that sometimes people put undue pressure on themselves to come up with the perfect, most beautiful location for their engagement shoot. However, for us, the most important thing is that the place means something to our couples. We were so excited when Kali and Chad told us they love hiking and the outdoors and suggested Mt Baldy. Yes, the wide open space, the mountains, and the clear blue sky were amazing, but being some place Kali and Chad loved brought out so much playfulness and intimacy. We took the chair lift up the mountain and hiked all over, creating new memories with the two of them.

Sarah Jane and I go way back to long before Micah, long before Justin. Just two girls searching for life and love in New York City. For years I have known that Sarah Jane has a strong and incredible heart, and when the time was right and God placed the right man in her life, he would be the perfect match. Last year when Sarah Jane called me and said ‘this is it, I’m done looking’ and asked us to photograph her wedding, we were ecstatic. We knew that this Justin must be pretty amazing, and we were not disappointed. The way these two love God and love each other, and were willing to share it with us and all of their guests was truly awe inspiring. Their ceremony took place on a Manhattan rooftop with all of their guests singing worship music over the City. The nerves and excitement that lead up to their first kiss could be felt by every person on that rooftop. And I would be amiss if I did not mention that their first dance may very well have been the best first dance we have ever seen. It began with a romantic slow dance. Then to the surprise of everyone there, they broke out into a flash mob! 25 or so of their friends had practiced this choreographed routine complete with partner dancing, formation changes, and a grand finale. It was amazing!

A number of months ago we received an email from Justine inquiring about our New York schedule for this year. With three weeks in a row of weddings on the east coast we were thrilled to be able to connect with Justine and DJ for an engagement session. We had so much fun photographing these two in their neck of the woods, the West Village of Manhattan! When we lived in New York, Micah and I always loved hanging out on Manhattan’s West Side. The cobble stoned streets, tiny cafes, and gorgeous brownstone homes made for a perfectly romantic setting for this session. Justine and DJ were magnetic, instantly comfortable in front of our cameras and willing to share how head-over-heels in love they are! They were up for anything as we explored the West Village, from the urban areas to the Hudson River. We ended their session at sunset on the rooftop of their building over looking the river. Perfect. Justine and DJ, we cannot wait to hear about all of the adventures you two have coming up! For now, enjoy a few of our favorites from their NYC engagement session.
